The Rise of the Yeezy

The Rise of the Yeezy

The adidas Yeezy Boost line is a collaboration between Adidas and rapper Kanye West with a series of shoes designed by him. The initial debut of the collaboration was the Yeezy Boost 750, a mid-top sneaker in a grey and white colourway, in February 2015. The shoe was exclusively available in New York City and sold out in just 10 minutes. An all-black colourway of the same model saw a launch in December 2015.Read More

The Biggest Trends on the Met Gala 2019 Red Carpet

By and away the biggest trend on tonight’s Met Gala red carpet was a tendency toward the futuristic in all its forms. Some translated the theme in head-to-toe silver, others in body harnesses and armor, and some with slinky cutouts that would make Lara Croft blush. Still, there were some great theme-rejecters too—see the squad of pale pink-clad women and dandified men. Read on for the best and biggest trends of the evening, and see how they stack up against our best dressed slideshow here.

Why Models Are Actually Hanging Out at a Place Called Modellounge

Why Models Are Actually Hanging Out at a Place Called Modellounge

Finding a suitable workspace is an issue that plagues many freelancers, and models, with their castings, fittings, and go-sees, are no different. Coffee shops and restaurants are nice, but they aren’t always the ideal place to catch up on emails or get things done. Enter Modellounge, a Soho House–style members-only club where New York City’s top models can go to relax, recharge, and, perhaps most important, have a moment of privacy. With outside guests and men banned from entering during normal hours, Modellounge offers a break from both gawkers and aggressively flirtatious bros, but that’s only part of the story.

Taylor Swift Has No Bad Blood With Her A-List Squad

Taylor Swift Has No Bad Blood With Her A-List Squad

While Taylor Swift leads the pack in squad style, the modern-day iteration of the chic celebrity clique owes a little something to Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio, whose perpetual wingmen included Tobey Maguire and Entourage’s Kevin Connolly. But whereas DiCaprio’s crew ran amok in the city back in the day, Swift is using her power posse for good, broadcasting a girl-empowerment message of unity and friendship, all while having fun and picking up some stylish tips from friends whose fashion goals are in league with her own.

Is Sarah Snyder the Downtown Cool Kids’ Answer to Kim Kardashian West?

Is Sarah Snyder the Downtown Cool Kids’ Answer to Kim Kardashian West?

You may recognize Sarah Snyder as the girlfriend of Jaden Smith, the subject of recently dismissed charges of grand larceny, and one half of a series of paparazzi-ed front row PDA. But there’s more to the 20-year-old than Fashion Week canoodling and court dates—Snyder has become a bit of a social media force to be reckoned with. She has a serious Instagram following (546K and growing), an unremitting allegiance to false eyelashes, and a shameless way with a bathroom mirror selfie—and typically provoking a “love her or hate her” response, she’s basically the downtown cool kids’ version of Kim Kardashian West.

First Ladies Michelle Obama and Juliana Awada Finesse a Fashionable Alliance

First Ladies Michelle Obama and Juliana Awada Finesse a Fashionable Alliance

Sure, on the heels of the president’s landmark Argentinian visit, the world is abuzz with talk about that tango, but what we couldn’t help notice is the apparent fashion connection between First Lady Michelle Obama and Argentina’s First Lady, Juliana Awada. Yesterday in Buenos Aires, in a bright blue floral Michael Kors dress from the line’s Spring 2019 collection, FLOTUS embraced Awada, who wore one of her signature all-white pantsuits. The chic world leaders chatted before Obama spoke to a crowd of young women about Obama’s “Let Girls Learn” initiative.

Good Jeans: Roger Vivier Celebrates Their Collaboration With Camille Seydoux

Good Jeans: Roger Vivier Celebrates Their Collaboration With Camille Seydoux

On Tuesday, the ladies who lunched were not uptown doyennes at the now-defunct Swifty’s but rather a cooler, chicer crowd of young women slipping their cutlery out of detached denim pockets that acted as place settings at Maman Tribeca, the recently opened, larger, airier sibling of the beloved Soho bakery. The francophone location was appropriate for the occasion: a celebration of stylist Camille Seydoux’s collaboration Prismick Denim collection with Roger Vivier. The idea for the collection of shoes and bags outfitted in pyramid patchwork denim came naturally to Seydoux, who is responsible for the red carpet looks of her bombshell sister, Lea. “Jean, it’s a material you always feel good in. And with the bag, it’s nice because it’s not boring, but it’s a neutral. It goes with so many things, but it’s fun. I hate boring bags, les Hermès me fatiguent!” And indeed, the ladies in the room proved that the collection was versatile enough to supplement a variety of ensembles, from Cleo Wade’s folk-embroidered chambray popover to Kate Foley’s floral-print frock. Seydoux was outfitted thematically, pairing a Sonia Rykiel embellished denim blouse and tweed shorts with her Prismick platforms and backpack. As guests left to creep back to offices, they were offered petite straw baskets and invited to shop the Maman marché and pick from a delectable variety of baked goods, as well as an assortment of bouquets bundled up, naturally, in Roger Vivier wrapping.

The Best Fashion Instagrams of the Week: Willow Smith Is Chanel’s Action Hero!

The Best Fashion Instagrams of the Week: Willow Smith Is Chanel’s Action Hero!

Hi-yah! Willow Smith immediately kicked into action as Chanel’s newest ambassador this week, taking to the brand’s Fall 2019 show in a double-C catsuit like a high-flying, high-fashion ninja. But as her Instagram showed, the young breakout style star’s presence was anything but stealth. Smith wasn’t the only one flexing their fashion muscle at the show, though. Chanel’s fit model, Amanda Sanchez, sprawled across the chairs at the Grand Palais bedecked in—what else?—a knit Chanel jumpsuit. And even Catherine Baba got in on the action in Paris, showing off her striped Gucci look while reclining in the hottest place in the city: a sauna stationed in the Plaza Athénée!

This Is What Fashion Week Looks Like Through the Eyes of Designers

By now, you’ve seen the runway photos, the atmosphere shots, the beauty close-ups, and the swirls and twirls of our street style snaps. Notice anyone missing? The designers who craft these collections tend to evade photographic documentation, appearing oh-so-briefly for their bows at the end of their shows or possibly as a hazy blur in a backstage pic. Lucky for us, many have taken to their Instagram accounts to share a behind-the-scenes peek at what Fashion Week is really like for a creative director. From Marc Jacobs fitting Lady Gaga in a fur-trimmed opera coat to Peter Dundas serving as bartender at his Just Cavalli party, these photos suggest there’s never a dull moment. Here, 15 of our favorite snaps from designers’ accounts.
