Blue Ivy and North West, Listen Up! Gucci’s New Kids Collection Is Red Carpet–Ready
There’s a petite and equally head-turning version of the ruffled crimson gown Cate Blanchett wore to Singapore Fashion Week. The same nerdy schoolgirl beret and pussy-bow blouse Gia Coppola wore to the brand’s show last season has been dwarfed in size—though the look still stands tall. And as far as gentlemanly smarts go, the natty geometric-print suit Harry Styles recently took for a spin has been tailored to fit future boy banders. It’s all enough to make you wish the collection went up to a size 16. “It’s no longer a ‘kid collection’ but a full, beautiful collection of ready-to-wear and accessories that has been shrunken down,” says Vogue.com’s Anny Choi. “It’s perfect for any celeb kids attending the red carpet: They can look chic and grown-up, and even match with Mom!” And with the Golden Globes this Sunday, there’s no telling whether a little star in the making will give the collection its red carpet debut.
If Generation Z’s de facto style harbingers, North West, Blue Ivy, and Harper Beckham, have taught us anything, it’s that style simply has no age limits these days. No sartorial risk is too big for pint-sized fashion enthusiasts anymore, especially when you consider tots who are regular fixtures on the red carpet and Fashion Week’s front row. Which is why Gucci’s newly released Cruise 2019 kids collection couldn’t have come at a better time: In shrinking down the whimsical ensembles that celebrities wore for their biggest red carpet moments last year, Alessandro Michele is bringing Italian style to an entirely new—and super-adorable—generation.
