All the Best Fashion Trends at the Golden Globes: Jennifer Lawrence, Brie Larson, and More
The 73rd annual Golden Globes are underway, and while the stars are toasting each other with Moët bubbly inside the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton hotel, the red carpet was filled with some of fashion’s most forward-thinking trends, all pulled straight from the Spring collections.
Showing some skin on the red carpet isn’t exactly revolutionary, but Sunday night found all manner of toned obliques on display, with Brie Larson, Kate Hudson, and Jennifer Lawrence all leading the pack. While Larson’s custom Calvin Klein gilded column made her into something of a human statuette, it was Hudson who most fully embraced the concept of a black-tie crop top in a Michael Kors Collection ensemble. Jennifer Lawrence modernized an Old Hollywood silhouette in crimson Christian Dior with waist-whittling overlay, topped off by a high-wattage diamond Chopard choker.
In direct contrast was the cascade of snow-white frocks on the red carpet. Alicia Vikander’s bib collar Louis Vuitton number lent The Danish Girl star a prim vibe, while micro-embellishments amped up the A-list factor. Taraji P. Henson’s custom Stella McCartney column dress featured luxe trimmings fit for her role as Empire’s—and television’s—reigning queen, while Laverne Cox was all Hollywood royalty in a flowing white gown, and Saoirse Ronan took a fresh approach to Grecian style in Saint Laurent’s demi-caped interpretation.
But leave it to the style supernovas co-starring in Carol to bring red carpet femininity to new heights. Cate Blanchett’s fringed Givenchy frock proved to be both fashion-forward and fete-ready, while Rooney Mara’s elegantly undone Victorian Alexander McQueen gown was every inch as regal as it looked on the runway. With both stars turning up in the palest shade of pink, and plenty more red carpets ahead, one can’t help but hope for more stealthily coordinated sartorial moments to come.
